Whales

I love whales and I think that they are incredible creatures.

My biggest wish is to see them alive .

So when we planned our trip to Iceland , first thing on my „to do“ list was Whale watching.

I searched a little and decided to go on a Express Whale and Puffin tour with elding.is

I was very excited about this and nervous.

We took the expensive tour with the Rib boat. I thought that  with that tour we would have a better chance to see the whales  and be able to come closer to the animals.

We came there early because we had to put on equipment: goggles, life vest, overalls.

12 people can get on the Rib boat.

The weather was great, Sea was really calm.

First we went to see  puffins.  We spend a little time around them. I expected more.

Then we went to look for the Whales.

The ride on the Rib boat was fun and not as close as scary as a thought it would be.

On the beginning it was fun and later I just got sleepy from the waves and wind.

We saw some white beaked dolphins so we stopped and watched them, trying to get some pictures.

Then, after a while we went further in pursuit for the whales.

But didn’t see any. Not one. No whales. Such a disappointment for me.

I don’t know if I was more disappointed or sad. I think sad.

It was over to fast and we were heading back to main land.

It was nice watching the Reykjavik from the sea.

But I wouldn’t do it again, maybe on a normal boat. It wasn’t  so special and much more expensive than normal boat.

I know that they can’t guarantee you to see whales, but when you see on they website 92% sighting success – then you have to think whether you have such bad luck?

Maybe some other time in some other place I’ll get my wish come true.

New opssesion

I really like photography and taking pictures.

I have a Canon camera that is good for my travels but I wasn’t really happy with the zoom because I can’t always get close to everything  I want to take picture of.

This particularly applies to animals.

About month ago I bought myself a new lens for my camera that has a better zoom and also has a macro.

And I love it!

We have a little orchard where I tested my new lens.

I really like taking photos  of animals but they don’t want to model  so you have to be really patient.

I was,  so I made some good photos. I hope you like them . 🙂

Top things I like in Budapest

There are many things that are great in Budapest and I already mentioned few attractions that are „must see“.

Now I’m gonna tell you what are my favorite things in Budapest:

  1. Gelarto Rosa

Gelarto Rosa is Ice cream shop, but it’s not a normal Ice cream.

It’s Ice cream in the shape of flower. You have to love this.

Rose Ice cream – most beautiful Ice cream to eat.

The shop is situated in city center, near the Szent Istvan basilica. Just look for the queue, there are people always waiting in line for this Ice cream.

They have many great flavours and the Ice cream is very tasty.

It is known as the best Ice cream shop in Budapest.

You shouldn’t miss this when you visit Budapest.

  1. Ruin Pub

Ruin Pubs are located in formerly abandoned buildings in the city and are very popular in Budapest.

They have Unique decor and fantastic atmosphere.

Having a Beer in Ruin pub is so much different than in some normal bar.

We were in Szimpla Kert  – that is the oldest and most famous Ruin pub.

There are many Ruin pubs in Budapest so you should try to visit at least one.

  1. Kerepesi Cemetery

Cemeteries are not for everybody, but I really like them.

Especially if they are so great and beautiful like Kerepesi.

It’s more like the park or a garden with beautiful monuments.

Great for relaxing walk.

It’s the oldest and most famous cemetery in Hungary.

Many famous hungarians are buried at this cemetery.

It is very big so if you plan to visit you should have a lot of time for it.

It is located near the Keleti railway station.

  1. Budapest Market Hall

Budapest Market Hall is heaven for shopping.

Market has 3 floors. Fruits, vegetables, dairy products, Hungarian salamis, pickles, fresh fish, Hungarian paprika,  wine, souvenirs.

You can buy great  funny pickled vegetables, every kind of paprika, great Hungarian sausages. Also t-shirts and other clothes.

The second floor has mainly eateries and souvenirs.

The lángos stand is located on this floor, serving the deep-fried snack lángos.  Salty or sweet.

  1. Margaret Island

Margaret Island  includes walkways, medieval ruins, a small zoo, musical fountain, a water tower, swimming pools, a water park, open air theatre and cinema.

It is a great place for a leisurely stroll in fresh air and you should definitely go there by foot (there is a bus that goes through island)

Take half a day or at least a couple of hours to explore and enjoy these beautiful  Island.

The 2.5 km long and 500 m  wide Margaret Island stretches between Árpád Bridge and Margit Bridge in the middle  of the Danube.

Driving through the island is not allowed but you can rent bicycles, roller blades, electric cars and motors there.

Budapest ZOO

When you are in Budapest you can visit one of the oldest Zoo’s  in the World.

It’s in the Városliget park, near the Heroe’s square.

Heroe's Square

Heroe’s Square

So you can visit the Heroes’ square, then visit the park where you can see the Vajdahunyad Castle on the lake.

Very nice place.

Then you can go to Budapest Zoo & Botanical garden.

You can buy  tickets online and that is very good idea because when we came to the entrance the line for the tickets was huge.

We bought our ticket on the newsstand few meters before the entrance and then just went in and didn’t have to wait.

So if you are going buy tickets online or on the newsstand. Or you can wait in line 😉

There is more than 1000 species there and to some animals you can get really close .

It was my first time a had the chance to touch the snake and I loved it.

Also you walk close by the Sloths who are so cute and sleepy 🙂

With the entrance ticket for the Zoo we also got a entrance to the Holnemvolt park.

It is a park where you can see animals, but you can also ride a rollercoaster made all of wood.

There is also a feeding area where you can buy food for goats.

There are many attractions there but for all of them you have to pay extra. It’s not very expensive.

Ticket price for the Zoo is around 8 €.
