For two days we have the Air show in my hometown.
I went yesterday and it was awesome.
There were many planes, old and newer that made lots of acrobatics in the sky.
Also there were some helicopters and special forces that showed us what they do in special situations.
The most interesting was the F18 hornet.
We were all waiting for this particular plane and it was fantastic.
You could also make pictures with all the handsome pilots from different countries.
We spend a whole day in Yas water world and it was awesome.
It’s a water park with lot of water slides, some are fun and relaxing and some are adventurous.
You can choose what you like.
There is also a section for smaller children, wave pool, free fall and a rollercoaster.
Floors are very hot and it’s very hard to walk barefoot, but by every pool you have a shoe storage cabinet so you can leave your flip flops there and take them when you go somewhere else.
My only complaint is that you have to pay extra for the safety lockers and they are not cheap.
They should be in the price of the ticket or much cheaper.
Some of the slides and attractions we tried:
- Amwaj Wave Pool – Wave pool is awesome!
There is a display with the time when the waves are gonna start so you take a float and go as close to the wall and wait .
Waves are small and relaxing, when they start you just let go and enjoy.
2. Al Raha River
This is a relaxing tube ride and I liked it very much. Like floating through the river.
3. Yadi Yas
It’s like the Al Raha River but calmer
- Bandit Bomber
This is a rollercoaster and there should be splashing water effects but when we were riding there wasn’t any.
We tried lots of roller coasters so this one was meh. Maybe it would be better with effects.
- Falcons Falaj
It’s a six seater float with twist and turns, drops and excitement . You just have to hold on tight for the float. Fun!
- Hamlools Humps
You fly down Hamlool’s Humps, it’s very high and a little scary but adrenaline 100%
By this waterslide is also a Jebel Drop which is the park’s steepest waterslide and a little too much for me so I didn’t try it.
This is a slide with six lanes, not so scary like Hamlools Humps and Jebel Drop.
This all rides are on the same place so when you go up you can decide which one you would like to try. It looks a lot scarier from up there.
- Slithers Slides
This one we used most times. There are 6 different slides – snakes , you came down through the snakes head.
That was good training because for all the slides you need to go up the stairs, many stairs.
- Liwa Loop
Ooooo the Liwa loop. This was something my husband really wanted to try so we went. I’m not really for that kind of things because of my fear of heights.
But I wanted to try it.
It’s a free fall waterslide!!
You drop straight down into a high-intensity looping waterslide.
I never felt so much adrenaline and never screamed so much.
Few seconds I had to hold my breath because the water was going into my mouth and nose, but it is over very fast.
I’m not sure if I would do it again but it was once in a lifetime experience.
My husband wanted to go again J
There are few dining places there, ice cream shop and also a souvenir shop.
There are also photographers making photos on lots of slides and you can buy them later.
But we had our waterproof camera and I could take photos on my one.
They even let my husband with the camera into Liwa Loop , filming his drop .
Yas water world was great fun for us and I we would recommend it to everybody and come again if I could 🙂
Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi is an amusement park that is inside Yas Mall. Indoor amusement park.
As the name said it is all about the Ferrari.
So if you are a fan of cars and especially Ferrari this is a place to visit.
It has roller coasters and different rides, but there is also some Ferraris in display to look at, karting, movie about creating a Ferrari, driving experiences…
You pay a entrance fee which is not cheap but if you buy it online and in advance you can get a discount to 15% and the best deal is if you buy combo ticket for Yas Water World and Ferrari World.
Most attractions are for free but for some you have to pay extra. Like the karting which is the cheapest and only one we payed for. Others were more expensive and we didn’t want to pay more.
Here are the attractions we tried:
Bell’ Italia is the ride in a retro car through the Italy, it’s a slow ride and suitable for everyone. It’s just to bad that some Italian music wasn’t playing.
Benno’s Great Race is something for the children, also a slow ride through the world of Benno who is a mouse.
Cinema Maranello is a captivating film about how Enzo Ferrari made his motoring dream become a reality.
Flying Aces is a rollercoaster and a good one. I liked it.
Formula Rossa – they say it’s the fastest roller coaster. You get goggles and you are blasted 240 km/h in 4.9 seconds . Good rollercoaster.
Galleria Ferrari is a gallery with collection of unique Ferrari’s.
Karting Academy is where you can take a ride in a karting car, you pay extra for it.
La piazza stage is where the performers make they shows .
Made in Maranello is a tour of the Ferrari factory where you can see how Ferrari is made.
Speed of magic is a 4D attraction.
Turbo track is a ride where you get shoot very fast forward and then come back slowly. It’s kind of cool but also very short.
Tyre twist is like the cups in other amusement parks. You sit in a tire and turn around until you get sick J
Viaggio in Italia – Take your seat, be elevated high into the dome of this multi-sensory simulator and look at the spectacular Italian landscape. This one was very interesting because you get lifted very high but you really don’t have a feeling that you are so high.
Fiorano GT Challenge is another roller coaster with parallel tracks and two coasters go in the same time – it’s like a race. On this rollercoaster behind us was a obese guy who couldn’t get out of the chair and was stuck. I don’t know how they took im out .
Also there is a place where you can drive a remote control cars or a boat through the Venice.
It’s fun to spend few hours there, but you don’t need a whole day for it.
And because it’s indoor it’s not hot.
Yas Mall is the biggest shopping mall in Abu Dhabi, located on Yas Island.
I’t has three floors and a lot of shops. There is also the Ferrari world.
Here are restaurants and very big supermarket named Carrefour.
Carrefour is very big and has everything you can imagine.
If you want to buy spices, tea, sweets, food, you can find everything here and the choice is great.
You can buy hot rolls and cooked food on budget prices and if you travel on a budget you can buy your food here, it is very acceptable .
Here is also the money exchange, bank and hop on bus.
It’s a good way to spend some time and cool yourself on a hot day.
From Yas Mall you enter to Ferrari World.
Yas Beach is located on sands of Yas Island. It’s a private Beach and you have to pay an entrance fee to enter, but if you stay in Radisson Blue hotel (or other Yas hotel) you get the ticket for free from the concierge.
There is a infinity pool and kids pool, snack shop, towels for rent, pizza shop, beach lounge and the Yas beach store .
You can rent a Cabana if you want (too expensive for me) or use loungers for free.
It’s a sandy beach and probably nice if you are there in some other time and not in summer.
We were in Abu Dhabi in august and you can imagine how it is when the temperature is over 40 degrees.
We got on the beach around 10 AM and were the only one there, Yas beach just for us.
It was hot as hell and the water was very warm.
We looked around, dipped into water for a while and had the water on ice wich the waiter brings you to the beach (you can order other drinks an also alkohol).
After 11AM people start getting to the beach.
You have to take the bus to the beach or taxi – Yas Express bus is free and Radisson blue hotel has a complimentary bus that gets you to the beach for free also.
We were on the beach until 12 AM and decided to go because it was to hot.
It’s nice , but I saw a nicer beaches. If you have a ticket definitely go to the beach but if you have to pay for entrance I’m not sure is worth.
Our next stop is Yas Mall.
Hotel is not far from the Airport, 15-20 minutes by car.
We stayed here for 5 nights and the room was nice and clean, only the curtains were not nice, they should change them. They look old and not very clean.
The breakfast was very good, a lot to choose from.
The staff at the breakfast and the concierge were nice.
The reception staff could be little less sirious and nicer.
The pool is great – one for familiy with children and one just for adults.
Water was just little too warm. All in all we were satisfied.
There is a pool bar, 2 restaurants and a cafe.
Hotel has a free shuttle bus that takes you to the Yas Beach and Yas Mall.
For the Yas Beach you have to take a ticket at the hotel from the concierge because the beach is private and has a entrance fee if you don’t have a ticket from hotel.
There is also a Yas Exspress bus near the hotel that is free and takes you to all Yas attractions : Ferrari World, Yas Mall, Yas Waterworld, Yas Beach, Yas Marina, Yas Links , Hotels & Yas Central.
On their website you can see the timetables.
We went from Zagreb , had a layower in Belgrade and then Abu Dhabi.
It was around 9 PM when we got to Abu Dhabi. We have passed customs control, they scanned our eyeballs and we went to get our luggage .
When the exit doors opened I thought I would die. We were hit by the heat, I never felt so hot.
My T-shirt was wet in a minute. It was like 39 degrees.
I expected the heat but this is something else, lot of humidity and high temperature.
Very unusual. We have in summer 35-38 but it doesn’t felt like that.
And it was night, during the day the temperatures went to 47-48 degrees.
The girl from Big Bus told us that in July they had 56 degrees. OMG, I can’t even imagine.
We wanted to take the bus to get to our hotel, we were situated on Yas Island, but there was no bus going there. And I have checked that on the internet and there should be a bus, but there wasn’t.
I learned that most information in internet about transport in Abu Dhabi is not really correct.
When we were looking for a bus, we found the machine that sells Hafilat card.
Hafilat – which means ‘buses’ in Arabic – is a pre-paid card that allows you to travel on public buses.
Temporary cards cost AED 5 and have a validity of 14 days.
These cards are issued at the main bus stations, a few shopping malls and the airport.
This is the best card for tourists.
We wanted to buy a card but the machine didn’t want to take our paper money – something was wrong with it.
Then a man approached us and asked if we need help. He bought us the card with coins and we gave him paper money. He was very nice and helpful.
Then we started to look for the bus and couldn’t find it. The second man came to us and asked us if we need help and he called the station and asked about the bus to Yas Island and it happened that there is no bus going from Airport to Yas.
I’m not sure if that it because we were out of the season there. I did find on the Internet that there is a bus, but there wasn’t.
We had to take a Taxi. He took us to our hotel and we checked in. Radisson Blue Yas Island.
In my next post I will write a little about the hotel.
It was late so we just took a walk around the hotel and then went to our room to take a much needed shower and sleep.
So, let’s start writing. I’ve been away for a while but now I’m back.
This summer I spend in UAE – United Arab Emirates.
As it happened my husband won a prize – a trip to Abu Dhabi with return plane tickets and 5 night stay at the Raddison Blue hotel + tickets for 2 Theme parks.
Everything for 2 person.
What happiness that was!! First we didn’t belive it, than we were very excited.
We had a lot of time to plan everything . The organizer was so kind they gave was to choose the travel dates so we could stay a few days longer and visit Dubai also.
It’s was great because our friend is living in Dubai and it was a chance to see her again.
All together we spend 12 days in UAE. 6 in Abu Dhabi and 6 in Dubai.
It was a new dimension for me, first time in such a different culture.
